On the podcast “Call Her Daddy”, the singer said she used substances to “escape” the bullying she suffered.
Demi Lovato revealed that she used it drugs for the first time at just 12 years old. During a podcast interview Call her dadThe singer said the addiction was triggered after she was in a car accident and that doctors prescribed opioids.
They are opium-derived chemicals commonly used to relieve severe pain. “I first started experimenting when I was 12 or 13. I had a car accident and I was prescribed opiates,” she said.
“My mother didn’t think she should hide opiates from her 13-year-old daughter, but at the time I was already drinking. I had been bullied and was looking for an escape.”
Demi also said that, when she was 15 and 16, she took different types of pills, but that at 17 she tried cocaine for the first time. “I loved it and that’s what led me to be hospitalized as soon as I turned 18.”
The artist claimed she was alone when she first consumed alcohol, after stealing her stepfather’s beer from the refrigerator. “I took it to my room and drank like four cans just to see what it was like to be drunk,” she explained.
Drinking soon led to an addiction that Demi struggled with for most of her career. She has had several spells in rehab clinics and in July 2018 she overdosed on a mixture of oxycodone and fentanyl.
The singer suffered three strokes, loss of vision, organ failure and a heart attack, but managed to recover. He dealt with the traumatic event in songs like Dancing with the devil and in their most recent album, Holy Fvck.
