Paramount released the poster and trailer for “Confess, Fletch,” the sequel to 1985 hit “Murder on the Job,” which introduced comedian Chevy Chase as journalist Irwin M. Fletch.

Called “Fletch” in the US, the original film was based on a Gregory McDonald literary franchise and had a sequel in 1989: “Fletch Lives”.

The project for the third film has existed since 1998, but only now will it materialize with Jon Hamm, star of the “Mad Men” series, in the role of the new Fletch.

The film is written by Zev Borow (from the “Chuck” series) and directed by Greg Mottola (“Superbad: It’s Today”), and adapts McDonald’s second book, originally published in 1976.

It is, in fact, the official sequel to the first book, “Fletch” (1974), which became the 1985 feature film – the second film, “Fletch Vive”, ignored the books by opting for an original screenplay.

In the plot, Fleth finds himself involved in a network of murders related to the theft of works of art, with himself one of the suspects. At the same time as he tries to prove his innocence, the journalist investigates a millionaire family whose artistic heritage has been stolen: the Picasso alone would be worth 20 million dollars.

The production promotes a mini-reunion of “Mad Men” between Hann and John Slattery, and also includes Lorenza Izzo (“Knock Before You Enter”), Marcia Gay Harden (“Fifty Shades of Gray”), Kyle MacLachlan (” Twin Peaks “), Roy Wood Jr. (” The Daily Show “), Ayden Mayeri (” After the Party “) and Annie Mumolo (” Two Crazy Aunts on Vacation “).

The premiere is set for September 16 in theaters and on VOD in the United States.
