Another South Korean star would have committed suicide. Actress Yoo Joo-eun, who starred in series such as “Big Forest” and “Joseon Survival Period”, died on Monday (29/8) at the age of 27. The news was reported by Chosun News, a leading South Korean newspaper, without providing a cause of death.
However, the actress’s brother shared an apparent suicide letter on her Instagram profile. Subsequently, the account was deactivated.
The letter was published out of respect for the will of the actress, who in it addresses her fans. The message begins with her apology and expresses gratitude for the support and love she has received.
“I’ve always wanted to act. Maybe it was all to me or a small part of me, but pursuing this career is very difficult. I didn’t want to do anything else, it was very painful,” she wrote, describing her passion for acting as a “blessing and a curse”.
“God loves me not to send me to hell. He will understand my heart and take care of me from now on. So don’t worry,” she added.
The text reinforces the impression that young South Koreans have fueled unrealistic expectations in their artistic careers, using as an example the brands won by K-Pop groups and the international achievements of films and series in the country.
The disappearance follows a string of youth deaths that rocked the local entertainment industry, including actresses Song Yoo-jung (1994-2021) and Kim Mi-Soo (1992-2022).
If you have suicidal thoughts, seek out specialized help such as CVV and Caps (Psychosocial Assistance Centers) in your city. The CVV works 24 hours a day (including holidays) by calling 188, and also responds by email, chat and in person. There are more than 120 gas stations across Brazil.
