Duchess of Sussex says South African actor likened her marriage to Prince Harry to Mandela’s release
The actor Giovanni Kanì denied the speech of Meghan Marklethe Duchess of Sussex, who says she would compared her marriage to Prince Harry to the release of leader and activist Nelson Mandela (1918-2013), in 1990, after spending 27 years in prison.
“I’ve never met Meghan Markle, I can’t even say what month she got married, not even what year. As far as I remember, no one (in South Africa) knew when she got married or how. Marriage or relationship”, the L South African actor told the newspaper daily mail.
In an interview with the magazine Cuttingthe Duchess said during the launch of the live-action The Lion King (2019), in London, a South African actor told her “I just need you to know: when you got married in this family, we celebrated on the streets the same way we did when Mandela was released from prison.”
Despite not mentioning Kani’s name, the artist has stated that he is the only South African actor in the cast of the film, but that he was not present at the London launch. “I went to Hollywood for the release and then straight to Paris to work on another film. The only South African was me, who dubbed Rafiki,” said he, a personal friend of Mandela.
