HBO Max canceled “Cruel Intentions,” the first soap opera to be made on the platform. This Monday (5/9), the platform released the cast, which was practically closed, for other projects.
In a statement, the platform insisted on an understatement, warning that production had been suspended and suggesting it could resume. However, HBO Max had already suspended production in early July.
“The telenovela has suspended production. When it resumes, we will give priority to the cast previously chosen,” the note reads.
The telenovela had names like Camila Pitanga, Alice Wegmann and Antonio Fagundes.
Seeing that business was slipping, Fagundes was the first to announce his departure from the project, choosing to shoot the sequel to Cacá Diegues’ “Deus É Brasileiro” (2003).
Alice Wegmann, chosen as the protagonist of the plot, is already working on a new project.
Camila Pitanga, who is a streaming producer, expressed her resignation at the Brazilian Grand Prix event in Rio de Janeiro.
“We need to understand that a merger is underway, a process that is global. Part of these mergers is that there are new policy adjustments,” he said at the time, when he still had hopes that the project could happen.
The merger he refers to is between Warner and Discovery, which was completed in April and spawned Warner Bros. Discovery, the conglomerate that owns HBO Max.
In addition to controlling the company, Discovery inherited a $ 55 billion doubt from the former WarnerMedia and, to prevent the situation from getting out of control, took radical measures, such as the order for TNT and TBS to stop producing content. with screenplay, which led to the end of series like “Expresso do Amanhã” and “The Last OG” – and for HBO Max not to develop more original projects in Europe – with the exception of productions in France, Spain, Italy and the UK .
The cuts in Latin America have been treated in secret, but the novel written by Raphael Montes (“Good night, Veronica”), announced with great fanfare, is one of the most obvious victims.
