20 years later: what the actors who played the main roles in the movie ‘Spy Kids’ look like today

In 2001, before superhero movies gained popularity, the first part of Spy Kids was released. If suddenly this story escaped you, we will try to briefly retrace its main idea: in the past Gregorio and Ingrid Cortes (played by Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino) were secret superagents. But they retired a long time ago, had children and began to live an ordinary life, hiding the past. The case changes everything: from the agency where the Cortes previously worked, several spies disappear. Gregorio and Ingrid return to work – but are captured in a mysterious castle filled with strange creatures. Gregorio Jr. (Juni) and Carmen are sent to help their parents – who had no idea what their mother and father were doing.

The blockbuster instantly became the box office leader and received a sequel. A total of 4 parts of Spy Kids have been released since 2001 – the last film appeared on screens in 2011.

At the time of filming, Alexa Vega was 12 years old. Today, the 34-year-old actress appears occasionally in television films and participates in various TV shows, such as Dancing with the Stars. Alexa married singer Carlos Peña in 2014. The couple are raising two sons and a daughter, born in the spring of 2021.

Daryl Sabara came into Spy Kids when he was just 8 years old. Moreover, this project was far from the first acting experience for the boy!

As a teenager, Daryl actively starred in films and TV shows – for example, he played a regular role in the Disney children’s series “Wizards of Waverly Place”.

In the mid-2010s, the guy stopped appearing on screens. But he started voicing cartoons and video games! And in 2018, Sabara married famous singer Megan Trainor. Last winter, the couple became parents for the first time.

By the way, in an interview Daryl said more than once that he still considers Alexa Vega his older sister. While filming Spy Kids, the guys became close friends. And they’re probably still in touch!
