Actor Charlie Hunnam (“Sons of Anarchy”) has revealed that he was seriously injured during the production of “Rebel Moon”, the new film from Zack Snyder (“Justice League”) for Netflix.
“I just made the Zack Snyder movie and I got hurt again. I have a fully exploded S1 and S2, which are fully open, 100% dehydrated,” he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, referring to the his hip, groin and thighs.
“It will take two years to heal and I still have a 40% tear in the ligament on the right side that holds my spine in place,” he added, explaining the consequences of this injury. “I’m getting to a point where I’m less tolerant of getting hurt and more concerned with trying to find ways to keep it from moving forward.”
“But the fearless nature of these experiences goes hand in hand with the stories I’m drawn to, so it becomes inevitable.”
As for how the injury occurred, Hunnam explained that it was “no one’s fault”.
“I was training really hard for some big physical production requirements, but I lost a lot of weight and haven’t trained for a few years due to Covid.”
“So really going back to an aggressive regimen without listening to my body or giving myself enough time to rest, while trying to get stronger as fast as possible ended up destroying my back.”
“Rebel Moon” is a science fiction story about an intergalactic colony threatened by the forces of a tyrannical ruler. Desperate, the colony’s residents send a young woman with a mysterious past to search for warriors from nearby planets to help them fight the despot.
If this premise sounds familiar, similar versions have already been told with samurai and cowboys in movie classics: Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai (1954) and John Sturges’ Seven Men and One (1960).
In addition to Hunnam, the cast of the production includes Sofia Boutella (“The Mummy”), Djimon Hounsou (“Guardians of the Galaxy”), Doona Bae (“Sea of Tranquity”), Ray Fisher (“Justice League”) ), Jena Malone (“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”), Michiel Huisman (“The Haunting of Hill House”), Alfonso Herrera (“Ozark”), Corey Stoll (“Ant-Man”), Staz Nair (“Supergirl “), Charlotte Maggi (” MaveriX “), Sky Yang (” Tomb Raider: Inception “) and newcomer E. Duffy.
Snyder co-wrote the script with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, who worked with the director on “Army of the Dead: Invasion of Las Vegas” (2021) and “300” (2006) respectively.
There is still no release date for the film, which, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is expected to be released in two parts.
