The incident that occurred during Elizabeth II’s only visit to Brazil highlights the monarch’s love for horses
In 1968, Queen Elizabeth spent 11 days in Brazil. She was 42 at the time.
He participated in processions in contact with the people, banquets with the authorities and tourist tours.
On a break from his program, he went inside São Paulo. Merchant and auctioneer Renato Magalhães Gouvêa, 93, recalled the moment in an interview with “VejaSP”.
“… He went horseback riding to a place near my farm, in Campinas. He took a liking to a groom, Monsieur Hélio, and sent him a pair of twins.
The gift of the most famous monarch on the planet to the humble man who cared for the horses on the estate shocked his employers.
“The owners of the site came to say it was a mistake: the items would be sent to them,” says the art specialist. Mr. Hélio asked Renato for help.
“I advised: say you gave it to a friend who lives far away. In the end I had to keep them, “she says.
“Later, we found a letter from the embassy confirming that they belonged to Mr. Hélio. After his death, I gave them to the children ”.
The arrogance of the besiegers prevented the knight from wearing the cufflinks that few people have had the honor of receiving from Elizabeth during her 70 years at the throne.
Following the Queen’s death on September 8 this year, another story involving the ruler of the British and a Brazilian tied to horses has attracted media attention.
Jockey Eurico Rosa da Silva, from the small town of Sao Paulo de Buri, received an award from Elizabeth when she won a grass race in Canada in 2010.
“You leave the countryside with the desire to be a jockey and you are there to receive the trophy from the queen, because you believed in your dream,” said the athlete in an interview with CNN Brasil.
Elizabeth’s relationship with horses went far beyond admiration for the beauty of animals.
She knew how to ride very well, knew many breeds well, was a breeder and loved to attend the traditional equestrian competitions of her kingdom.
