Leslie Phillips, the “Harry Potter” actor, died at 98

British actor Leslie Phillips, who younger generations know as the voice of the Sorting Hat in the “Harry Potter” saga, has died at the age of 98. According to his agent, he was battling an unspecified disease and died peacefully in his sleep on Monday night (7/11).

Phillips began acting in the 1930s and has had a prolific career on stage and on screen, appearing in many of the British comedies “Carry On”, Britain’s largest franchise with over 31 films.

She also participated in some Hollywood classics, such as George Cukor’s musical “Les Girls” (1957), “Between Two Loves” (1985), Sydney Pollack, “Empire of the Sun” (1987), Steven Spielberg , and Bob Rafelson’s “Mountains of the Moon” (1990), as well as the action film “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” (2001), starring Angelina Jolie.

The main role of his career was in Hanif Kurieshi’s “Venus” (2006), for which he was nominated for a BAFTA (British Oscar). In the plot, Phillips was part of a group of elderly actors, along with Peter O’Toole and Richard Griffiths, who live off reminiscences, until O’Toole’s character’s young niece shakes their existence.

His latest works include Julie Gavras ‘”Late Bloomers” and David Yates’ “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2”, both in 2011. And he completed the British production “Darkheart Manor” before he died.
