Anitta wins EMA 2022, MTV’s European award

Singer Anitta won the award for Best Latin Artist at the MTV EMA 2022, the European music channel awards, which took place this Sunday afternoon (13/11) in Düsseldorf, Germany.

She beat out contestants Shakira, Rosalía, Bad Bunny, Becky G and J Balvin, but didn’t make the trip to the event due to commitments in the US: She attended a charity event on Saturday night in Los Angeles. Even so, she sent a special message to her fans.

“Thank you so much! Oh my god I’m so happy! Thank you so much to all my fans who voted for me and made me the best latino at this EMA. Thank you so much for all your love and at the EMAs too. You are amazing!” Next time I hope to be there to celebrate. Love you,” she said, in a video released by MTV.

The win coincided with the one-year anniversary of the worldwide success of ‘Engage’, which became the most streamed song globally on Spotify and currently surpasses 800 million plays across all platforms.

Anitta is also competing in two Latin Grammy categories for the hit “Envolver”, competing for the Record of the Year and Best Reggaeton Performance awards next Thursday (17/11), as well as two other categories at the NRJ Music Awards 2022, a French award which takes place the day after, and the trophy for Favorite Latin Artist at the American Music Awards, scheduled for November 23rd.

In addition to Girl from Rio, singer Manu Gavassi was also awarded at the Europe Music Awards (EMA). He won a local award, as best Brazilian artist, for the second consecutive year, surpassing Anitta herself in the category.
