Netflix has released the trailer for the documentary “Mr.”, which portrays the life of director Robert Downey, father of actor Robert Downey Jr. The video highlights exciting passages of the coexistence between father and son, and presents the interpreter of Iron Man as narrator. It was his idea to make the film, recording the last months of his father’s life in conversations about his successes, his family and his struggles.

According to the synopsis, the film “is a lovingly irreverent portrait of indie filmmaker Robert Downey’s life and career that quickly transforms into a meditation on art, mortality, and the healing of generational dysfunction.”

The film is directed by Chris Smith, producer of “King Tigers” and director of “Fyre Festival: Fiasco in the Caribbean”, and arrives on Netflix on December 2nd.

Director Robert Downey passed away in July 2021. He was 85 years old and had suffered from Parkinson’s for at least 5 years.

The director became known in the 1960s for being one of the filmmakers most identified with the US countercultural movement, which he explored in his works. This phase produced at least one cult film, 1969’s “Putney Swope,” which pitted the civil rights movement against the advertising industry.

His famous son has starred in many of his films. Indeed, the future Iron Man made his acting debut in the comedy “Pound” (1970), playing for his father at the age of five.

Robert Downey was also an actor and participated in films such as “Boogie Nights” (1997) and “Magnolia” (1999), both by Paul Thomas Anderson. His last screen appearance was as a guest on the hilarious ËœSaturday Night Live’ in 2015.

Since his works were truly independent, they never received much attention from the market and never left the circuit of initiates – his main titles are unpublished in Brazil and in several countries around the world. For this reason, his audacity came to be forgotten. What’s more, he is even unknown among the new generation, who call him only the father of Robert Downey Jr.
