Rochelle Costiphotographer and visual artist, is dead on the afternoon of this Saturday 26, at the age of 61, after being invested in the region of the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS), in São Paulo. His art was known for enhancing everyday objects and installations before his eyes.

It is said that he took up photography because he could not draw, and through photography he ended up entering the visual arts. In his work it was common to find everyday objects. In 1995 he explained to the Stage: “I always work with materials that are present in everyday life, such as wigs, mirrors… I collect these materials for years before using them in my works”.

In The rooms (1998), one of his major works, tried to show how “intimacy, so personal and profound, becomes universal”. In addition to the works exhibited in different corners of Brazil, his work has also been appreciated internationally in countries such as the United States, Spain, China, Ecuador, England, Portugal and Guatemala. In the latter country, for example, it was 2006 and he made several records of craft shops, reflecting on the production process and the display for the sale of materials.

Among his more recent exhibits was The Third Bankat Oficinas Culturais Oswald de Andrade, in São Paulo, held in October 2021. The photos printed as large tents allowed the public to observe part of the scenarios encountered during a trip to the Amazon, such as a shop selling Chinese products on the border between Bolivia and Brazil, or headquarters of a cultural collective of the indigenous Huni Kuin, in Acre.
