Bolsonaro puts the Prime Minister in charge of Brazilian culture

With 25 days left in his mandate, Jair Bolsonaro appointed Prime Minister André Porciuncula as his seventh and last secretary of culture this Wednesday (7/12).

The decision was published in the Official Gazette (DOU), together with the dismissal of Hélio Ferraz, head of the portfolio.

On Twitter, former Culture Secretary Mario Frias congratulated Porciuncula, who in his administration was responsible for the provisional deformation of the Rouanet law. The original intention to block the funds for culture, in a project that replaced the technical criteria with a nebulous advance government approval to define the recipients, was circumvented by Congress with the Aldir Blanc and Paulo Gustavo laws.

Not surprisingly, Frias and Porciuncula horribly protested on social media against the release of this money to the cultural sector, behaving as if it came from another wallet and not from the secretary of culture.

Speaking of the government’s nebulous approval for cultural projects, Porciuncula even defended that audiovisual funds go to films and podcasts that encourage the purchase of weapons.

He also participated in the joy flights of the Frias administration. He traveled to Los Angeles for a five-day, taxpayer-paid stay for just two business meetings.

The captain of the Bahian PM left the secretariat together with Frias to run for deputy, but, unlike the former boss, he failed to get elected.

With the defeat of Bolsonaro, this group leaves the scene together with the secretariat itself. From January, with Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Culture will regain importance and importance in Brazil, again having its own Ministry.
