Actor Pedro Paulo Rangel, veteran of Globo soap operas and comedies, was intubated in Casa de Saúde São José, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro, to treat COPD, a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The 74-year-old actor has been hospitalized since October 30 and in the CTI (Intensive Care Center) since November 6. However, the hospital did not provide details on his health or treatment.
The actor has been battling the effects of COPD, caused by smoking, since 2002, four years after he quit smoking.
“It absolutely doesn’t stop me from working. I take medicines, I have a routine. I do physiotherapy. I just can’t walk many meters, I can’t, I’m out of breath. But on stage I walk perfectly. On the streets I use a scooter,” he said , in an interview with the O Globo newspaper in May of this year.
The situation, however, has recently worsened.
