A poll by Elon Musk on his Twitter profile on whether to step down as CEO of the platform indicated that users of the social network are eager to say goodbye.
“Should I resign as head of Twitter? I will respect the results of this poll,” he wrote on Sunday evening (18/12) opening the poll on the social network.
After more than 17 million votes, the answer was “Yes”. 57.5% of the vote indicated that Musk should leave Twitter alone, with 42.5% supporting his offenses.
In recent days, Musk had censured journalists from the New York Times, Washington Post and CNN, among many other publications, by suspending their Twitter profiles on charges of having practiced doxxing (disclosure of private data), by sharing a bot on the .location of your aircraft. Many of the suspended reporters only reported that Musk suspended the bot’s account, even though he promised that, due to his stance on defending free speech, he never would.
On Sunday, he added another Washington Post reporter to the suspended list, because he sought him out to comment on a story he was writing.
To round out his Sunday, Musk also banned posting links to other social networks on Twitter. But hours later he was forced to reverse the decision due to the backlash, with several users threatening to quit the network that the billionaire bought two months ago for $44 billion.
Because of so much inconsistency, users want Musk to step down as head of Twitter, leaving the job to someone who knows what he’s doing.
As of the poll result, Musk hasn’t posted anything else on Twitter.
As the numbers grew, he made two publications. In one of them, he dropped a word of complaint. “As the saying goes: be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.”
Investors in Tesla, the electric car company that designed the billionaire, feared Musk might waste too much of his energy after buying Twitter.
Tesla has already lost nearly 60% of its value this year, knocking Musk off the title of richest man alive.
Last month, Musk told a Delaware court he would cut back on his time on Twitter and eventually find a new leader to run the social media company.
But, responding to a Twitter user’s comment about a possible leadership change at the company, Musk said on Sunday, “There is no successor.”
It’s worth mentioning that even if he decides to step down as head of Twitter, Musk will still own the social network — and because he owns a majority stake in the company, he can fire any boss who doesn’t do what he wants.
