Pastor Edir Macedo, founder of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God and owner of Record TV, was denounced for a homophobic speech he gave on Christmas Eve (24/12) on his television channel.
“You were not born bad. No one is born bad. No one is born a thief, no one is born a criminal, no one is born a homosexual or a lesbian… join the world,” Macedo said.
The sentence, which goes beyond the lack of respect by defining anyone who is not heterosexual as “bad”, has led the National LGBT+ Alliance and ABRAFAH (Brazilian Association of Homotransfective Families) to file a complaint against the pastor.
The coordinator of the legal area of ββthe applicant institutions, Amanda Souto says that “it is particularly perverse to use one of the largest television channels in the country, in prime time, during one of the main commemorative dates in the country, to spread hatred”.
The president of the National LGBT+ Alliance, Toni Reis, also spoke out against Macedo. “Comparing homosexuality to being a criminal is incitement to hatred and we cannot tolerate it. Let Macedo answer according to the law,” he declared.
