Attacked by Bolsonarists since Sunday (25/12), when he joked with Luciano Hang and anti-democratic coup plotters at Globo’s “Best of the Year” award, Paulo Vieira told Monica Bergamo’s column in the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper that he has “continuously receiving death threats”.
Invited to present the artistic event scheduled to accompany the inauguration of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as president next Sunday (1/1), in Brasilia, he guarantees that he will not allow himself to be intimidated by the “false putschists”.
“My team received calls saying they knew my flight time, that they knew where I was going to be and that they would come and pick me up if I went to Brasilia,” he told the newspaper.
But even though she knows to be careful when “dealing with bandits,” she says her plans won’t change because of the threats. “I will be in Brasilia on the 1st, together with my friends Janja and Lula, with great joy and courage,” she points out. “No one will steal our joy,” she reiterates.
When asked about the jokes against Bolsonaro supporters, Vieira sacked: “I don’t regret any jokes against flop scammers. In fact, it will get worse. I know the media is power and I will use my strength to build a better country.”
In his assessment, the level of messages they received due to the jokes only proves that he attacked the “right hornet’s nest”. “I never wanted to be friends with fascists, racists and putschists,” she explains.
He described some of the messages he has received from Bolsonarists. “Most of them are racist attacks calling me a monkey, saying my grandmother fell out of a tree in a picture where she’s on crutches. That would be all right,” she says.
On Globo, he recounted his plans for 2023: “I will be doing four programmes, two films and an international series in 2023. I will be launching two books. In February, I will be opening one of the largest concert halls in the north of the country, Comics PUB. My company Cabeça Preta has signed a contract with Paris Filmes and has a partnership with Endemol for the creation of formats”, he lists.
And he adds: “I am a director of Globo, a friend of Janja and Lula and an enemy of racists, there is no way I can improve”.
