Monark has its Twitter and Instagram profiles removed by court order

Youtuber Bruno Aiub, better known as Monark, had his social media profiles taken down by court order on Friday (1/13). In addition to him, the accounts of MP Nikolas Ferreira and right-wing influencer Barbara “Te Actualizei” were also maintained.

The three spread false news about electronic ballot boxes and other Bolsonarista narratives, as well as encouraging terrorist attacks against the Three Powers in Brasilia.

During the January 8 attacks, Monark wrote: “I feel sympathy for the people who are protesting, this state of ours is a nefarious and authoritarian dictatorship, they are only robbing the people. Something needs to be done, but our political class has proven cowardly and conniving, so it’s normal for people to feel hopeless and rebellious.”

He also blamed the STF for the invasions. “The STF is responsible for what is happening. Remember the ‘lost mane’ [que] the boys scolded millions of Brazilians in the face that they don’t give a damn about people. The result is there, social chaos.”

Upon seeing the extent of the destruction, Monark sought to distance himself from the harm he encouraged with his rhetoric. “I want to clarify that I do not support the invasion, my comments are only intended to analyze the situation. I hope that all those involved return to their homes safely and that the acts of violence are punished.”

Monark’s Twitter account had 1.4 million followers, while on Instagram, he had 618,000. Both profiles had platform verification seals.

He had already lost his YouTube channel by court decision in November.

Before that, Monark lost his participation in ‘Flow’. During an edition of the podcast that he presented until the beginning of 2022, he defended the legalization of Nazism in Brazil. He was kicked out and issued a bizarre apology, claiming he was drunk. “I also ask for some sympathy: it’s four hours of conversation and I was drunk,” he posted at the time.

Other right-wing influencers who had their accounts withheld also made biased posts in relation to the destruction march in Brasilia.

Nikolas Ferreira’s accounts had already been blocked on another occasion. In November 2022, he temporarily lost access to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for sharing lies about the electoral system.

But it’s worth pointing out that Nikolas was not the only politician to make controversial publications about coup acts. Intercept Brasil conducted a survey that identified 46 federal deputies elected in 2022 who have encouraged, defended or even tried to justify terrorism in Brasilia.
