Plus or ideal size: what size did Marilyn Monroe really wear?

The image of Marilyn Monroe always excites the minds of the public. She was a sex symbol of the 20th century and her figure was the envy of women. However, many still doubt that the actress meets modern beauty standards. You can figure this out by understanding what size Monroe actually wore.

Marilyn Monroe’s career was not very long, as the actress died at the age of only 36. However, after that there were films, hundreds of photographs by journalists and snapshots by amateurs. All these materials are still carefully studied to find the answer to the question that worries many – what size was the main Hollywood diva?

In the publications you can often see that it was the 14th size, which in the modern dimensional grid roughly corresponds to size 52-54 or L / XL. Added fuel to the fire and actress Elizabeth Hurley, who called Monroe “fat” after seeing her dresses at the show.

But in fact, the confusion arose from the fact that the dimensional grids adopted in the 1950s are very different from modern grids. So, for example, the “zero” size of the modern model corresponds to size 10 of the old standard, that is, it turns out that Monroe wore clothes in size 42-44. Also, the parameters of Marilyn, registered in the Blue Book modeling agency, were preserved, with which the future star signed a contract at the age of 19. If translated into centimeters, then Monroe had almost ideal hourglass parameters – 90-60-90 with a height of 166 cm and a weight of about 53 kg. By the way, in the agency the administrator noted that the height of the young Monroe was 12 years old.

Of course, with age, the weight of the actress fluctuated slightly, but, for example, the pathologist’s report indicates the same weight – 53 kg.

Today, many scholars of Monroe’s life agree that the actress was more of a modern size 8-10, i.e. M.
