Not just Alec Baldwin: Hollywood celebrities who committed manslaughter

The murder of cameraman Galina Hutchins on the set of Rust was a real shock to the film industry. Alec Baldwin, who pulled the trigger on the gun, was recently charged with manslaughter. Turns out he’s far from the first in Hollywood to experience this.

These stars had serious run-ins with the law.

Matthew Broderick

In 1987, actor Matthew Broderick traveled through Northern Ireland with actress Jennifer Gray (star of Dirty Dancing), whom he was then dating. Broderick was driving when their car collided with another vehicle carrying two women, Ann Gallagher, 28, and her mother, 63. Both are dead. Broderick ended up in the hospital with injuries and Gray escaped with a few bruises. Broderick was eventually allowed to return to the United States, but only after a $4,075 bond was posted. Sarah Jessica Parker’s future husband faces up to 10 years in prison – five years for each death. But in the end, Broderick was found guilty of reckless driving and ordered to pay a $175 fine. Relatives of the victims called it a “travesty of justice”.

Vince Neil

Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil was involved in a car accident in 1984 while driving drunk. The passenger in the car, Vince’s friend and drummer for Finnish band Hanoi Rocks, Nicholas Dingli, has died. Neil was charged with manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol.

He pleaded guilty to the charges, was ordered to pay $2.5 million in restitution and served less than a month in prison.

Rebecca Gayheart

The Beverly Hills, 90210 actress killed a nine-year-old boy named Jorge in Los Angeles in 2001.

Gayheart pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a car accident and was sentenced to probation, a year’s suspension, a $2,800 fine and 750 hours of community service.

In 2019, during an appearance on the Laura Cathcart Robbins podcast, Gayheart admitted that she “just didn’t want to live after this accident.” The actress was very upset by the drama and even thought about committing suicide.

Amy Locane

In 2010, the Melrose Place actress punched attorney Fred Seaman and his wife Helen Seaman on a New Jersey highway. Helen Seaman died immediately from her injuries and her husband was seriously injured. Tests showed the actress’ blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit.

In 2013, Locane was found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison. When the woman was released, however, the court decided to reconsider the case, finding the first sentence too lenient. In 2020, Locane was sentenced to eight years in prison and, under New Jersey law, must serve more than six years before being eligible for parole.
