Actress Regina Duarte, former culture secretary in Jair Bolsonaro’s government and staunch defender of the former president, joined other Bolsonarists in attacking actress Cláudia Raia, who had approved a plan to raise around R$5 million through the Rouanet Law. On her Instagram, Regina shared the publication of the project in the Official Gazette, highlighting its value.
In the original post, the post caption read, “Wow, wasn’t that picanha and beer for the people? Hahaha lulists, scammers, communists, scammers, satanists!” The publication went viral among Bolsonaro supporters and actress Claudia Raia suffered a hail of attacks and negative comments.
For a change, Bolsonarists attack artists to reinforce falsehoods and misinformation about the Rounet Law. The approval of the loan does not mean that Claudia has pocketed the millionaire in her account. In fact, the show’s production was allowed to go after backers to raise — at most — $5 million in endorsements. The incentive for sponsors is to deduct the amount from the taxes owed.
If the value is met, the money will still go towards hiring the labor, materials, food, theater rent, travel, crew salary, and other costs involved in producing a stage play. It is worth mentioning that so far the actress has not received a penny.
In addition, the actress will promote a “40-hour training activity on the practice of performing arts and the professional market of actors”, in exchange for the authorization to capture value in the market.
The new Secretary of the Creative Economy and Promotion of the Ministry of Culture, Henilton Menezes, has complained about the prejudice of the Bolsonarists with the law. “This image that the Rouanet law is the mamata, who pays the fee of famous artists, this, in fact, has never existed beyond the speech invented by the government [Bolsonaro]which came out to criminalize artists,” he assessed.
It’s worth mentioning that although Regina attacked her colleague for using the law, she used it too — and that was a bad thing.
Regina was ordered to return some of the money raised. In July last year, the company A Vida é Sonho Produções Artísticas Ltda, of which Regina is a managing partner, was forced to repay R$ 319,600 obtained through the National Program of Cultural Incentives, established by the Rouanet Law. At the time, the former Undersecretary of Culture had filed an appeal, which was rejected.
Coincidentally, she also raised funds through Rouanet Law for a stage production, the play ‘Ana Jansen’, in the city of São Paulo, but failed to raise the full authorized amount.
Thus, unlike other uninformed Bolsonarists, Regina Duarte is fully aware that she is spreading false news to attack a fellow professional.
