Singer Marilyn Manson is facing a new sexual assault lawsuit. According to Rolling Stone magazine, the new case involves Manson’s sexual assault of a minor in the 1990s.
The lawsuit was filed in court on Long Island, New York by an unnamed plaintiff identified only as “Jane Doe.” In the lawsuit, it names Manson (real name Brian Warner) and his former record labels, Interscope and Nothing Records, as defendants.
As Rolling Stone reported, the lawsuit “includes allegations of sexual assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress against Warner, and negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress, among other allegations, against record labels.”
The victim allegedly met the singer after a concert in Dallas in 1995, when he invited her and another girl on his tour bus. At the time, she allegedly specifically asked for their ages, school grades, home addresses and phone numbers.
Jane Doe was 16 at the time and the age of consent in the state of Texas is 17.
“Inside the tour bus, defendant Warner engaged in various acts of criminal sexual conduct against plaintiff, who was a virgin at the time, including, but not limited to, forcible copulation and vaginal penetration,” the lawsuit states. “One of the band members witnessed defendant Warner sexually assaulting plaintiff.”
The lawsuit further states that “the plaintiff was in pain, scared, shocked, humiliated and confused. After he was finished, defendant Warner laughed at her… bus’ and threatened the plaintiff that if she told anyone, he would kill her and her family.”
The abuses, however, did not end there. In later years, the singer would condition the victim to spiral into drug abuse. The lawsuit also points out that Manson controlled who the victim could see, who she could interact with, as well as convincing her to have sex with “other band members or her assistant at the same time.”
She also displayed “hostile and verbally abusive behavior,” which included the use of racial slurs and other slurs such as calling her fat.
The lawsuit alleges that the record labels “were well aware of defendant Warner’s obsession with sexual assault and child sexual assault.” According to the victim’s attorneys, Interscope and Nothing Records have never had “a reasonable system or procedure to investigate, supervise or monitor their personnel and/or agents, including Defendant Warner, to prevent pre-sexual solicitation and sexual harassment, sexual abuse and assaults of fans, including minors and women”.
“Defendants Interscope and Nothing Records were aware of Defendant Warner’s practice of sexually assaulting minors and assisted and abetted such behavior,” the lawsuit continues. “As a result of the sexual abuse and assault of Brian Warner, which was permitted and encouraged by Defendants Interscope and Nothing Records, the plaintiff suffered severe emotional, physical, and psychological distress, including shame and guilt, economic loss, economic and emotional loss”.
Jeff Anderson, a lawyer known for his fight against sexual abuse within the Catholic Church, is one of the lawyers on the case. He told Rolling Stone that “this survivor’s lawsuit is a giant step toward shedding light on an industry that hides dangers in plain sight. It’s time to face the music. New laws give survivors time to take action.” concrete actions for justice and protection”.
“Powerful new laws in New York and California give adult survivors the ability to take legal action against predators and those who protect and profit from them,” the attorney continued. “We are grateful to the survivors and so many others who now stand with us to expose the predators and those in the music industry who have enabled, promoted and profited from their violence against the vulnerable.”
Recently, Marilyn Manson reached an agreement with actress Esme Bianco (known for her role as Ros in “Game of Thrones”) to end the sexual abuse and assault lawsuit she had filed against him. In addition to Bianco, several other women have made similar allegations against the singer, including his ex-girlfriend, actress Evan Rachel Wood (“Westworld”).
