Brazilian Anitta didn’t win the Grammy, but she did win very special praise backstage at the awards show, which took place Sunday night (5/2), in Los Angeles. In a meeting backstage at the event, Viola Davis walked up to her and said, “I’m a fan of yours. I saw your documentary on Netflix.”
The meeting was revealed by Patricia Kogut’s column in the O Globo newspaper. After that meeting, Viola started following Anitta on Instagram.
Anitta competed in the Breakthrough Artist of the year category, which was won by pop jazz singer Samara Joy, one of the least known in the contest, which also included rapper Latto, Italian rock band MÃ¥neskin, Muni Long, DOMi and JD Beck, Tobe Nwigwe, Omar Apollo, Molly Tuttle and British indie band Wet Leg.
At the end of last year, the Brazilian made history by winning the awards for Best Latin Female Artist at the American Music Awards, and the Best Latin Artist trophies at the VMA (Video Music Awards) and EMA (Europe Music Awards), major international awards from MTV.
