Charlotte Dawson has addressed the "ups and downs" of her relationship with fiancé Matt Sarsfield, days after the couple were caught in a tense exchange at the National Television Awards.
Exclusive footage obtained by the Daily Mail from Tuesday night showed Matt walking away from Charlotte after a heated moment at London's O2 Arena. Moments later, Charlotte appeared frustrated as she followed the 34 year old to get his attention.
The tense exchange came just hours after the couple had put on a united front, posing together for Instagram snaps in their red carpet looks. Charlotte dazzled in a white corset gown, while Matt wore a velour suit jacket and bow tie.
Birthday tribute
Just days later, Charlotte shared a selection of photos from their evening at the awards ceremony to mark Matt's birthday, acknowledging that things between them "haven't always been perfect."
"Happy birthday to my sexeh man, my baby daddy, my partner in crime. 10 birthdays together… HOW?! We've had the wildest ride, with more ups and downs than I could ever count, but through it all, we've built our beautiful little family and shared some of the most incredible memories together," she wrote.
She continued: "Life isn't always perfect, but most importantly… we have each other. And after everything, that's what matters. Here's to another year of you, more memories, more laughs & more chaos. Happy birthday my love. Here's to forever… love you."
Charlotte and Matt have been together for eight years and share three children, Noah, five, Jude, three, and 18 month old Gigi.
History of split rumours
The couple were hit by split rumours back in December after they "had a blazing row." Charlotte shut down the speculation at the time, just months after she discovered he was "sexting" another woman. The Daily Mail has approached Charlotte's representatives for comment.
Struggles behind the scenes
Charlotte has previously opened up about how their relationship has fared a year on, admitting things have been tough because they do not have time to talk. She told Closer magazine: "Noah's lack of routine and his co-sleeping with us has been quite straining on our relationship as well. He only wants to go to bed when we do, so we don't have that time to talk and have tea together, and that's so important. I feel like once Noah starts school, we'll find us again."
Charlotte was left hurt and humiliated after discovering Matt had sent intimate texts to another woman behind her back last year. Addressing the news on an episode of her podcast, she said: "I've seen the messages... they're not nice, it really hurt."
Just weeks after the news broke, Charlotte shocked fans by revealing she was pregnant with their "surprise" third child. She later gave an update on their relationship, admitting the pair were taking each day as it comes. "Yeah, it's been emotional, but it's been like an actual rollercoaster everything. But now I feel a lot better," she explained. "I feel a bit like everything's been lifted a little bit. We're taking each day as it comes obviously we have children together and obviously got another baby on the way and he is trying so I just want to shake him."
Being open about her private life
Commenting on her decision to talk about her difficult personal life on her podcast, Charlotte said: "I'm open and honest. I think that's just the way I've always been."
She continued: "It was difficult for me to be so open about my private life because I know I'm, like, open about fun things and stuff. So it was quite hard for me, and I felt like the podcast was the best place to do it. It's like my safe space. I had to address it obviously because everyone was talking about it."
Matt Sarsfield's background
Matt is a rugby player who has played as a second-row forward for the Swinton Lions. He also appeared alongside Charlotte on Celebs Go Dating as the pair worked through their relationship problems four years ago.
After that appearance the couple split but later reunited, and Matt proposed to Charlotte in September 2020, a few months before the birth of their first son, Noah. The engagement took place in front of a statue of her late father, the comedian Les Dawson, in Lytham, Lancashire.
