A full trailer has landed for Clayface, a body horror film reimagining Batman's shape-shifting villain for an adult audience.
Director James Watkins, known for Eden Lake (2008), reinvents the character of Matt Hagen. Rather than a treasure hunter transformed by a radioactive pool, Hagen is now an actor played by Tom Rhys Harries for whom his appearance means everything. When villains attack and disfigure his face, he agrees to an experimental procedure that appears to restore him to normal.
The normalcy proves illusory. He gradually loses his mind and transforms into a monster.
Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House) co-wrote the screenplay with Amini Hussain (47 Ronin, The Snowman). James Gunn, head of DC Studios, is among the producers.
The cast also includes Naomi Ackie (Mickey 17), Max Minghella (Babylon) and Eddie Marsan (21 Grams). The film is rated 18+ and has a worldwide premiere set for October 9.
