Moonbug Entertainment has released the first trailer for CoComelon: The Movie, which will open exclusively in theaters on February 19.
The animated series was created by Jay Jeon, an American father who began producing educational songs and videos for his children before building an entertainment empire. CoComelon is now one of the few shows capable of competing with children's entertainment giants such as Bluey, Sesame Street, and Paw Patrol.
Like Paw Patrol, CoComelon has shared a problem that has worried pediatricians, scientists, and parents for some time, which is overstimulation. The issue grew particularly relevant in recent years, prompting Moonbug Entertainment to address parent concerns. In April, the company announced an agreement with the UCLA Center for Scholars and Storytellers to integrate scientific child development principles into its content creation.
Voice cast and characters
In the film's original version, Connor Esterson voices a slightly older JJ. The voice cast includes singer SZA as Princess Harmony, Nicholas Hoult, who played Lex Luthor in Superman, as Boba, and Ike Barinholtz as Chicken Peels.
The cast also features Sarah Sherman, Ego Nwodim, Josh Johnson, Rhys Darby, Matthew Friend, and Cristo Fernández.
Preschool plot and musical direction
The movie follows JJ during his first day of preschool. His day becomes complicated when he discovers that his beloved teddy bear, Boba, has disappeared.
JJ joins Cody, CeCe, and Nina on a search that leads them to a magical kingdom ruled by Princess Harmony. The princess created a world governed by a peculiar rule that prohibits all singing.
The adventure brings the CoComelon universe to the big screen for the first time with a story focused on finding courage, discovering one's voice, and understanding the importance of friends. The production features ten new songs and a visual style different from the regular show format, designed as a cinematic experience for long-time followers and new generations.
