Vicky Myers has announced she is engaged to her secret boyfriend, just months after her Coronation Street character married co-star Alison King on screen.
The actress, 50, plays DS Lisa Connor-Swain on the ITV soap. Her character’s wedding to Carla Connor was the show’s first female same-sex marriage.
Off screen, Myers confirmed her engagement in an unusual way: by responding to a troll who accused her of keeping her partner out of the public eye. In reply to a now-deleted tweet, she wrote: “He’s actually my fiancé.”
It was the first time Myers had publicly clarified her relationship status, and fans quickly shared their delight at the news. “That’s really lovely. I wish you all the happiness in the world,” one wrote. Another urged her to “ignore the hate” and expressed hope to see her in her wedding dress.
Myers’s on-screen wedding was far from straightforward. The nuptials were nearly derailed when the venue cancelled at the last minute, forcing the characters to relocate the ceremony to Underworld. Speaking to Digital Spy about the storyline, Myers said the chaos ultimately brought the couple closer, describing the day as being about “the intimacy between the two of them.”
Earlier this year, fans were surprised when Myers shared an Instagram post marking her 50th birthday, with many saying she did not look her age and asking her to “drop the secret” to her youthful appearance.
Beyond Coronation Street, Myers has appeared in a number of other television productions, including Ackley Bridge, Casualty, Unforgotten, The Five, Age Before Beauty and The Long Shadow. She has been a soap fixture since 1998.
