Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem will star together in the psychological thriller Bunker, which has been selected for the main competition of the 83rd Venice Film Festival, with its world premiere scheduled for September.
The film follows architect Antonio, who takes on building an elite bunker for a tech magnate, a project his wife Sofia considers ethically questionable. The work consumes him entirely, and their once-happy marriage splinters under the weight of arguments, silences, and jealousy. A mysterious stranger who begins watching their home places the family under a threat they do not yet know exists.
The ensemble cast includes Stephen Graham, Paul Dano, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Mark Gatiss, and Eileen Atkins.
French director Florian Zeller, who won an Oscar and previously made The Father with Anthony Hopkins and The Son with Hugh Jackman, helms the picture. Zeller is also a novelist; his books include Artificial Snow, which won him the Hachette prize at age 22.
An exact release date for Russian cinemas has not yet been announced.
