Spanish singer Dani Martín has released a series of behind-the-scenes videos from his 25th anniversary tour, which he is now days away from finishing, using the footage to look back on what the run of shows has meant to him.
Weeks earlier, Martín had shared on his social media a documentary made by a fan. He has always made clear that he has little interest in conventional formats, let alone a polished production made for a streaming platform. This time, he has instead posted a set of clips filmed from inside the tour, labelling them a "homemade documentary" in the caption of the post.
In one clip, he pointed to the camaraderie among his touring team as the reason the run has felt so special. He said it was rare for things to come together as well as they had this time, describing how a well established band had welcomed new members and formed what he called an incredible bond, recalling that the group had been playing Twister together only days before.
A team that does not want to separate
Martín went further in describing the atmosphere around him, saying he felt a team had formed that did not want to break apart, comparing it to being at a summer camp and enjoying being on stage without the forced closeness he says he has seen among musicians in the past. He said the group was simply comfortable and enjoying itself.
He added that it was the tour that had gone by the fastest for him, the one he had enjoyed the most, and the most comfortable of his career, saying he did not want it to end. He repeated that it was rare for everything to fall into place the way it had this time.
The Madrid-born artist also praised the musicians who have accompanied him on stage, singling out the string quintet that has performed with him. He said having a quintet like the one on this tour was incredible, explaining that after using one for his shows in Madrid, he decided the rest of the cities on the tour deserved the same treatment, because he believed audiences elsewhere deserved it too.
A mix of moods on stage
Martín said the response from the shows had been that this was a fun tour, one packed with different moments. He described starting concerts with a burst of energy before moving through moments of nostalgia, moments that brought people to tears, and musical passages he said he may never have had on previous tours. He said he was extremely happy and did not want it to be over.
The pressure that comes with success
In another of the clips, Martín turned to what continuing to succeed means for him personally. He said success puts him back in a position of very high expectations, explaining that selling more tickets than ever 26 years into his career only makes him wonder whether he will be able to match those numbers next time.
He said his plan for his next project is to remove that pressure from himself and do something different, calling it the smartest choice available to him. He said he could not keep competing against his own past achievements, arguing that doing so would be unwise.
Martín built his career as the frontrunner of the band El Canto del Loco before launching a solo career that has produced numerous hits in Spain. The tour marking 25 years in music, referred to informally by its title "25 p*t*s años", has taken him through Madrid and other Spanish cities and is now approaching its closing dates.
