Screenwriters Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan are developing A Really Bad Person, a new crime drama series for FX and Legendary TV.

Trade publications including Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter reported that the police drama is currently in production. The project marks the first series that Jimenez and McMechan have created together as a writing team.

Jimenez and McMechan will serve as executive producers on the series pilot alongside Sharon Hall, David Finkel, and Brett Baer.

The production is described as a thriller with comedic elements that give it a tragicomedy feel. The official synopsis centers on a relatable American girl visiting London who takes an unexpected action by posing as the missing daughter of a British family. The scheme represents her final attempt to secure citizenship, start fresh, and flee her complicated past.

Previous works and comic adaptation

Jimenez and McMechan previously co-wrote the screenplay for Netflix's animated feature film Las Guerreras K-Pop alongside Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. Released last year, the hit movie won two Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, accumulating 600 million views since its premiere.

Netflix plans to further build on the successful property by publishing an official comic book of over 700 pages. The release will include a collector's edition starring Rumi and faithfully adapts the original script written by Jimenez, McMechan, Kang, and Appelhans.

Since working on the animated film, McMechan and Jimenez wrote the horror comedy Youth Juice. The duo also reached an agreement to write the screenplay for director Tim Burton's remake of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman.

Upcoming FX and Legendary TV slates

A Really Bad Person is one of several projects currently in development at Disney-owned FX. The network is working on Hopeless, a comedy by Jeff Chan and Rob Mac, the co-creator and star of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. FX is also developing The Marriage Plot, a series adaptation of Jeffrey Eugenides' novel starring Sadie Sink, and the drama Seven Sisters starring Elizabeth Olsen.

FX's development lineup further includes Far Cry, a series based on the video game franchise created by FX veterans Noah Hawley and Rob Mac, as well as Very Young Frankenstein, a comedy based on Mel Brooks' classic movie.

Legendary TV is preparing several high-profile projects across other platforms. The company is developing an unconfirmed new season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and an untitled Monsterverse series starring Wyatt Russell, both for Apple TV. Legendary TV is also producing Dune: Prophecy for HBO Max.
