Davina McCall, 58, plans to retire in five years following surgery for breast cancer and the removal of a rare brain tumour, her husband has revealed.
Michael Douglas, a celebrity hairstylist, said the couple intend to spend another five years working before stepping away from their careers. “We’ve got five years of hard work left in us,” he said. “Then I think it’s time for us to relax and enjoy all of that hard work. Davina will be about 62 and I’ll be around 58.”
Douglas added that while they are both happy and healthy, “that might not last forever,” prompting the couple to consider when to enjoy what they have built together.
The plans follow several difficult years of health challenges for the Long Lost Family host. Last year, McCall revealed she underwent surgery for breast cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London after finding a lump. She said it was caught very early and had not spread. In 2024, she had surgery to remove a rare brain tumour after doctors discovered a colloid cyst during a health check-up, and was later given the all clear following MRI scans.
The retirement news comes shortly after McCall and Douglas celebrated their marriage with a second wedding party at her home in Kent, seven months after they tied the knot at Marylebone Town Hall last December. They had been together for seven years following her split from her previous husband, Matthew Robertson.
