Paramount+ has released the first teaser for the second season of the crime drama series Dexter: Resurrection, confirming that the show will premiere on October 30, 2026. The upcoming season will consist of 10 episodes, which are expected to air weekly on the streaming service.
In the new season, Dexter Morgan, a sociopath who hunts other serial killers, attempts to build a relationship with his son Harrison while helping him overcome his own dark side. At the same time, the main character will face a fresh wave of dangerous criminals.
Michael C. Hall returns to the lead role of Dexter Morgan, while Jack Alcott again portrays his son Harrison.
Uma Thurman, known for her roles in Pulp Fiction, Batman & Robin, Gattaca, Kill Bill and The Old Guard 2, returns to her role as Charley Brown from the first season of Resurrection. Meanwhile, Desmond Harrington, who played Detective Joseph Quinn in the original series and appeared episodically in the spin-off, has joined the main cast for season two. Harrington's past credits include the film The Neon Demon and the drama series Gossip Girl.
New villains and cast additions
The second season introduces major new additions to the cast. Brian Cox, known for his work in Troy, The Bourne Identity and X-Men 2, joins the series as a retired serial killer nicknamed the New York Ripper, who torments his victims.
Dan Stevens joins the show as a maniac nicknamed the Five Boroughs Killer, who threatens police through telephone calls regarding the murder of innocent people. Stevens has previously starred in films including Beauty and the Beast, I'm Your Man, Abigail, The Ritual and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, as well as the television series Downton Abbey and Legion.
History of the Dexter franchise
The original Dexter series premiered in 2007. The narrative centered on Dexter Morgan, a Miami police forensic specialist who possessed homicidal inclinations from early childhood. Orphaned at three years old, he was adopted by police officer Harry Morgan, who recognized the boy's psychopathic traits and chose to raise him under what became known as the Code of Harry.
Under the code, Dexter was permitted to kill only those who had murdered innocent people and were prepared to kill again, punishing serial killers in cases where law enforcement was powerless. The original show became an instant hit and ran for eight seasons before concluding in September 2013. Hall played the lead role in every season, briefly pausing filming in 2010 to undergo treatment for cancer, which he successfully overcame.
The franchise expanded through several spin-off projects over the years. An animated series titled Dexter: Early Cuts aired from 2009 to 2012. In 2024, a prequel series titled Dexter: Original Sin debuted, set 10 years before the events of the main story. It was the only project in which Hall did not portray Dexter, with Patrick Gibson, known for The Tudors, The OA and Shadow and Bone, taking over the role.
Sequel series and critical acclaim
Hall returned to the role in the 2025 sequel series Dexter: New Blood, which picked up the character's life approximately 10 years after the original series and focused on his efforts to rebuild a relationship with Harrison after years apart. Although New Blood was successful and initially renewed for a second season, it was ultimately cancelled in favor of another spin-off, Dexter: Resurrection, which also launched in 2025 and merged the projects.
Dexter: Resurrection currently holds an IMDb score of 9 out of 10. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show holds a 95 percent critic approval rating with a Certified Fresh distinction and a 90 percent audience score. On Metacritic, film critics gave the series a score of 65 out of 100, indicating generally favorable reviews, while the general audience rating stands at 8.7 out of 10, corresponding to universal acclaim.
