No pill exists that can instantly relieve all hangover symptoms at once, according to Svetlana Burnatskaya, a therapist and occupational medicine specialist at JSC Medicina.
Burnatskaya said that hangover syndrome is a complex reaction involving intoxication, disruption of the water-electrolyte balance, glucose deficiency, and damage to the nervous system and liver. No single drug, she said, can eliminate all of these processes in one dose.
The doctor said a combination of remedies works better than any one treatment. She explained that sorbents such as activated charcoal absorb toxins in the gut, but are only worth taking the morning after drinking if nausea is present.
Burnatskaya added that rehydration drinks and mineral water restore electrolyte balance and help with dehydration, weakness, and headache. B and C vitamins support neurons and the liver, while succinic acid boosts metabolism, speeds detoxification, and reduces fatigue and headache.
