Rihanna held a press conference ahead of the Super Bowl – what we learned

Rihanna, 34, is gearing up for her long-awaited performance at the Super Bowl. On Sunday, February 12, she will take the stage for the first time in years at halftime of the Philadelphia Eagles’ game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The day before, the singer took part in an Apple Music press conference and spoke in more detail about the upcoming performance, as well as about her creative plans, motherhood and her native Barbados. We collected all the details in our material.

Rihanna got nervous after receiving a Super Bowl invitation

When they first called me to invite me, I answered: “Are you sure?”. I am in my third month postpartum: do I have to make such important decisions now? Will I regret this? But when you become a mother, something happens when you feel that you can conquer the whole world, you can do anything. A Super Bowl this is one of the biggest stages in the world. So as scary as it is (and I haven’t been on stage in 7 years!), there’s something exhilarating about this challenge. And it is important for me to do this in the new year. I want my son to see this.

The singer had the hardest time with the set list of the performance

This will be a pivotal moment in my career and I want to present my art in the best possible way. And when you have only 13 minutes to speak it’s not easy… cramming 17 years of work into 13 minutes it’s very difficult and we’ll have to drop some songs, but that’s okay. And I think we’ve done a pretty good job of cutting down the tracklist.

Rihanna will pay tribute to her homeland at the Super Bowl Barbados

It’s far from home. It’s a beautiful journey that I’ve made and I never thought I’d make it. And so I want to celebrate the triumph of my homeland. I’m really happy to see Barbados on the Super Bowl stage.

The singer is happy to return to music and misses the big tour

The pandemic in some strange way forced me to slow down. And then, when you are shackled by all these restrictions and rules, and you have to stay at home, you get kind of creative in how you have fun. I’ve always loved road trips, it just usually happened on the road. It was a pleasant time, which I really appreciate.

Rihanna is open to new musical experiments

I feel open musically. Open to explore, to create something new, different, different, weird, that may never make sense to my fans, people who know the music I release. I just want to play. I want to enjoy music.

Preparing for the show required significant physical effort from the singer.

The physical challenge was certainly enormous. For many reasons. It’s going to be a very intense show and it really takes a toll on your body. We rehearse a lot, and getting closer to the finished product. Today we will have a really big rehearsal, really important, one might say, decisive before Sunday’s performance.

Rihanna is just learning to balance career and motherhood

Finding a balance is almost impossible. No matter how you look at it, work it is always something that takes up your time with your child. Now it is a currency. When you’re making decisions about what you’re going to say yes to, it should be worth it.

Favorite album of the singer in her own discography “ANTI”

I really enjoyed recording “Loud” and “Diamonds”. I was on the road when I created both albums. She toured with one record, recorded the next, and then returned, toured again and recorded a new release. But ANTI is by far the most beloved album I’ve ever recorded.
