The publication Komsomolskaya Pravda, citing a source in medical circles, writes about the deteriorating health of the Olympic champion in figure skating Roman Kostomarov. According to the newspaper, both hands were amputated to the athlete. Necrosis reached the hands of Kostomarov, because of this they had to be amputated, as well as the feet before.

Some media, citing the statement of the athlete’s mother, refute the information about the amputation of limbs. Relatives of the skater and doctors have not yet given official confirmation. Roman’s wife Oksana Domnina said earlier that her husband, if he wishes, will tell about his state of health when he recovers. Kostomarov was admitted to intensive care on January 10 due to pneumonia.

The doctors put the athlete into a medically induced coma and connected him to the ECMO machine. On January 24, this was no longer necessary. On February 7, it became known that both feet were amputated to Kostomarov. The figure skater needed such an operation due to tissue death due to the presence of gas bubbles in the soft tissues.

In 2006, Roman Kostomarov became the winner of the Olympic Games in Turin, paired with Tatiana Navka. The skaters are also two-time world champions and three-time European champions.
