Penn Badgley, known for his roles as Dan Humphrey in the original Gossip Girl and Joe Goldberg in the psychological thriller You, gave a long interview to Variety, where, among other things, he spoke more about his ex-girlfriend and co-star Blake Lively, who is on the channel’s cult show The CW played the role of Serena van der Woodsen.

It was the very moment when the on-screen romance migrated to real life. The first rumors that Penn and Blake were together appeared in 2007 with the release of the first season of Gossip Girl. But the relationship of celebrities was not as fabulous as on the screen.

Like anyone who achieves fame and fortune in one way or another, a universal truth was revealed to me that not only does this not make your life better or easier, but it can significantly complicate it and make you completely unhappy, says Badgley.

At the age of 20, Penn faced an identity crisis. He no longer wanted to play on television and felt lost, but did not seek salvation in alcohol and illegal substances.

I never had suicidal thoughts, but I was definitely desperate. It was related to the questions: “Do I matter?”, “Does anything matter?”. These questions influence how we feel. The answer I came up with was: “Yes.” I think we should all come to this. I don’t know how you can come to “no” and be happy,” Penn shared.

According to the actor himself, his relationship with Blake saved him from addictions.

To be honest, I have never struggled with drugs. Blake didn’t drink and I think our relationship in a way saved me from having to force myself to go that route.

Blake Lively and Penn Badgley split in 2010. Now the actress is happily married to Ryan Reynolds. Pair raises three daughters 7-year-old James, 5-year-old Ines, 2-year-old Betty and a recently born child whose gender and name have not yet been disclosed by the spouses. Stars met on the set of the film “Green Lantern” in 2010, but a romantic relationship between them began only a year later. In 2012, they secretly tied the knot.
