The 28-year-old actor stars in “The Head of Joaquín Murrieta,” a Primer Video series that attempts to tell the story of the popular Mexican bandit who stole gold and other valuables from American miners to distribute to Mexican farmers.

For example, on the Instagram post in which he shared his trailer, there were some comments accusing him of going “brown” or coloring his skin to portray the character.

The collective Poder Prieto, which seeks to eradicate racism and open the doors of representation to darker skinned people in Mexican film and television, also spoke on the topic.

On February 5, she took to Twitter accusing the producer of making a “cheeky brown face” and added:

He added that he is in “absolute disagreement” with the accusations of “brownface” since “they haven’t even seen (who accused him of it) ‘The head of Joaquín Murrieta.’

In this sense, he reiterated that “they don’t know where the character is from, they don’t know his history, I tell them the characters are in 1850, full of earth, exposed to the sun… That’s the answer.”

Regarding his next projects, Alejandro Speitzer announced that he will be moving to Colombia for a while to work on a film.
