Alec Baldwin reduced charges in Galina Hutchins death case

The New Mexico State Attorney’s Office softened the charges against Alec Baldwin. Prosecutors removed from the text an aggravating circumstance clause, which was initially considered the use of firearms by the actor. Law enforcement agreed to mitigate the charge in order to avoid further litigation with Baldwin. The prosecutor went to meet the actor’s lawyers, who demanded that the aggravating circumstance be abandoned due to the fact that the law was adopted in the state after the death of Hutchins.

Because of this clause, Baldwin’s sentence could be up to five years in prison. Now he faces up to 1.5 years in prison. The charge was reduced not only to Baldwin, but also to another defendant in the Hutchins murder case, weapons consultant Hannah Gutierrez-Reid. She, like the star actor, is charged with the unintentional murder of Galina.

Galina Hutchins died on October 21, 2021. Lead actor Alec Baldwin was reported to have pulled the trigger during a rehearsal for one of Rust’s scenes, unaware that the gun contained live ammunition. Director Joel Sousa was also injured. Despite this, Baldwin has stated in some interviews that he did not fire the pistol. The fact that the actor will be prosecuted under a criminal article for murder became known in January of this year. And recently, the Hutchins family filed a new lawsuit against the star and the film crew.

Later there was information that Alec Baldwin would soon return to work. In the spring, the Hollywood actor will continue production of Rust. Several crew members will return to the project along with director Joel Sousa. Joining the work are security staff Gary Jensen and Paul Jordan from Tenet Production Safety and production designer Christine Brandt.
