Penn Badgley, known for his roles as Dan Humphrey in the original Gossip Girl and Joe Goldberg in the psychological thriller You, gave an interview to Harper’s Bazaar. In a conversation with reporters, the actor spoke more about his character in the popular Netflix show and about the refusal to film intimate scenes, which upset his many fans. The reason is quite simple – he decided to take this step out of loyalty to his wife.

When you fake a murder, nothing real happens. When you fake sex, your body is still touching the other person’s body. When your body comes into contact with another person’s body, it is not an imitation. This is the only thing that is not simulated. Everything else – yes.

The actor also spoke about how he felt at the beginning of his career while filming sex scenes. According to him, then he did not have enough influence to declare his feelings.

I have been acting professionally for 25 years. Most of that time I felt very uncomfortable with the many things I had to do. It didn’t necessarily have to do with sex scenes. Actors are always objectified. I always sympathize with the plight of other people in general and especially women when it comes to sexual objectification in our industry. I’ve been aware of these issues that women in this industry face to a greater extent for quite some time now. I have said publicly that there were a few moments when I doubted whether I could continue filming. And that was one of the reasons.

Badgley previously revealed that he nearly landed the role of Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad. He reached the final stage of the casting. In it, the actor competed only with Aaron Paul, who eventually got the role.
