Australian-born American media mogul Rupert Murdoch has broken off his engagement to Ann Leslie Smith, who was to be his fifth wife. Less than a year ago, the businessman divorced his fourth wife Jerry Hall. According to Vanity Fair, the businessman did not comment on the cancellation of the wedding. Sources close to him claim that the bride’s religious views were to blame. Smith is a follower of evangelism. This is a Protestant denomination whose followers believe that a person’s salvation is possible only through his personal faith in Jesus Christ.

With Ann Leslie Smith, Murdoch met in September last year at one of the events on the territory of his vineyard in California. Ann and her late husband had a wine business, and Rupert owns a vineyard. It was there that he first saw his bride.

Last year, when I had 200 people in my vineyard, I met her and we talked a little. I called her two weeks later,” Murdoch said.

In March, Murdoch announced their engagement. In an interview with his New York Post newspaper, Murdoch said he was “afraid to fall in love, but he knew it would be his last love.”

It would be better if it turned out that way. I’m happy, he said.

Earlier, the Daily Mail reported that the media mogul gave his bride an 11-carat diamond engagement ring worth more than $2.5 million. The couple’s wedding was to take place at the end of the summer. Forbes estimates Murdoch’s net worth at $17.6 billion. He is included in the ranking of the 100 richest people in the world. In March 2019, the billionaire sold film and television studios Fox, FX, National Geographic Networks and his stake in Star India to Disney for $71.3 billion. Among other things, Murdoch has stakes in Fox Corp (parent company of the Fox News channel) and News Corp (publisher of The Wall Street Journal).
