Professional colleagues and longtime friends, the actors Matthew McConaughey AND Woody Harrelson entered the most commented topics of the week after the star of “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” reveal that they may be biological siblings.
In conversation on the podcast We talk off camera, In Kelly RipaMcConaughey was talking about the new Apple TV+ series he’s co-starring with his friend, coincidentally, called “Step brother” (Step brother, in Portuguese). It was then that the actor surprised himself by saying that he believed that Harrelson could be his brother.
“You know, where I start and he ends, and where he begins and I end, it’s always been a blurry line,” McConaughey said. “And that’s part of our friendship, right? My kids call him Uncle Woody. His kids call me Uncle Matthew. And you see our pictures and my family thinks a lot of his pictures are mine. His family thinks many of my photos are his».
And the strong bond between the two isn’t the only reason why the actor believed this hypothesis. According to Matthew, the suspicion arose because of a comment from his mother. “In Greece a few years ago, we were sitting and talking about how close we are and also about our families. And my mom was there and she said, ‘Woody, I knew your dad.’ Everyone was aware of the ellipses my mother left after the “meeting. It was a heavy “meeting” he said.
The revelation intrigued the stars, so the actors decided to dig into their family history and discovered that McConaughey’s mother and Harrelson’s father may have had an affair in the past.
We went on to unravel what this “knew” meant and did some math and found out he was the father [de Harrelson] he was on leave at the same time my mom and dad were going through their second divorce. Then there are possible receipts and locations in West Texas where there may have been a meeting, or the time of the “meeting.”
Despite the mystery – and the curiosity – Matthew and Woody still haven’t decided whether to take a DNA test. The reason? McConaughey says there’s a lot “at stake” with this reveal.
Look, it’s a little easier for Woody to say, ‘Come on, let’s do this. [testes de DNA]’, because what does he have to do with it? not be my father after 53 years of believing in it?’ There’s a lot more at stake.”
