Wrexham Football Club, a Welsh football club bought by actors Ryan Reynolds (“Deadpool”) and Rob McElhenney (creator of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) two and a half years ago, won the Fifth Division title British and access to the fourth division last Saturday (4/22). Present at the decision, the two American players were moved by the 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood and were delighted by the cheering crowd.
“Rob and I are almost blacked out at this point, but I still don’t think we’ll ever forget it,” Reynolds wrote on Twitter, sharing a video that was recorded by fellow Hollywood star Paul Rudd (“Ant-Man and the Vespa : Quantummania”).
The feat was also celebrated by William and Kate, Prince and Princess of Wales, who congratulated the club. “Congratulations Wrexham, a club with an incredible history, look forward to a very exciting future in the Football League. You do Wales proud,” the royal couple’s official Twitter account said.
The game started with a goal from Boreham Wood just after 42 seconds of play, but Wrexham turned the score around with goals from Elliott Lee and Paul Mullin, who scored twice. The excitement was such that the crowd invaded the Racecourse Ground stadium after the end of the match.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s purchase of Wrexham resulted in a documentary series called ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, the first season of which is available in Brazil on Star+. The consecration of the club will go into the next season of the series, which has become a kind of “Ted Lasso” in real life.
This is Wrexham’s first result since 2008 when they were last promoted. The team, which lacked solid experience, moved up to the next level after 15 years of playing in the semi-professional league and are now looking forward to an exciting future in the Football League.
Rob and I passed out during this moment, but somehow we will never forget it.

Everything I own smells like champagne, beer and weed. I’m still somewhere between giggles and sobs. This city and this sport is one of the most romantic things on earth. Thank you, @Wrexham_AFC ⚔️🏴ӠӠӠӠӠӠӠ⚔️ pic.twitter.com/cxpVRUpkLq

It must be said. Ryan Reynolds has shown nothing but class since he arrived at Wrexham. He treats every opponent with the utmost respect and often heaps praise on Notts County in his interviews. Football needs more owners like himpic.twitter.com/9xc5HBsfyy
