OR prince William has settled with a British tabloid in a lawsuit involving his brother, Harry, and mother, Diana. The information was released by the Duke of Sussex last Tuesday, 25.
Amid the lawsuits he’s leading against the media, Harry has long been trying to blame a press conglomerate for the death of his mother, who died in a car accident in 1997 while being chased through the streets of Paris, France. However, he became aware of her husband’s meghan Markle that his brother’s office has already made a “secret deal” in court to close the case.
According to Harry, News Group Newspapers (NGN), publishers of the now defunct Sun and News of the World, illegally and ill-timedly collected information about him, his brother and his mother.
Despite the allegations, Rupert Murdoch, media tycoon and owner of the media empire, has denied making deals with prince William. The current office Prince of Wales declined to comment on the case. Meghan’s husband, in turn, claims to have documents proving the “secret agreement”, with evidence, including, of the active participation of Elizabeth II, who died in September 2022.
“The reason for this [acordo secreto] it was to avoid having in the middle of my proceedings a member of the royal family being put on the witness stand and recounting the details of the private and highly confidential voicemails that had been intercepted,” Harry said in an interview with AFP.
Prince Harry and singer Elton John are among six public figures who have sued the editor of the Daily Mail and accused the company of illegally gathering information. A judge will hear the allegations this week and decide whether the charges against NGN go to trial.
