Scarlett also discussed with journalists the strike of the Writers Guild of America. It was caused by the expiration of the contract between the Writers’ Union and the Motion Picture and Television Producers Alliance. The agreement regulates the transfer of funds from film studios to scriptwriters. Johansson notes:
What they demand does not seem unreasonable. It would be great if both sides could reach an agreement without such severe and potentially devastating consequences for people financially and otherwise. I just don’t understand why it fails to resolve. This has been going on for several months or even years. How did we get to this point?
