The eternal Drago is set to release the second installment of ‘Aquaman’ this year after eight years of fighting against a strange cancer that has not even prevented him from continuing to work.
Dolph Lundgren, eternally known for the Rocky saga and also the star of upcoming blockbusters like ‘Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom’, has just revealed that he has been fighting cancer for eight years. The actor, who now plays King Nereus from the DC universe and who many will know as Drago, Rocky’s Soviet rival in ‘Rocky IV’, shot a post-surgery video in 2020 for In Depth with Graham Bensinger, then sat down with Besinger himself for the interview that has now come to light.
Despite never having shared his status during his fight, and continuing to work regularly, Lundgren has been fighting for years. He had a tumor removed for the first time in 2015, and it was confirmed that he had cancer. Although the treatment was assessed as successful, the cancer returned in 2020. That year they had to remove not one but several tumors in the kidney area. It was there when Lundgren recorded the video that has now served as the basis for the interview in which he has told it.
After the operation, they told him that he had “two or three years to live.” But Lundgren sought a second opinion. It turns out that his case was complicated, a mutation that occurred similarly in lung cancer and was easier to treat. This second opinion and this new treatment changed his life, or rather gave him life.
If I had followed the other treatment, I would have had between three and four months left. I couldn’t believe the new treatment would make such a radical difference. Within three months, the cancer was shrinking by 20 to 30 percent. I remember sharing the news with my family, it was emotional. By 2022, things were down about 90 percent. Now, I am in the process of removing the remaining scar tissue from the tumors.
Although the damn cancer returns when you least expect it, it seems that the actor will make a full recovery, at least for now, from his tumors. Of course, the actor ends by saying that all this experience has made him “appreciate life more.”
In addition to the premiere of ‘Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom’, with a release date for December 22, 2023we will also see you in ‘The mercenaries 4’ on September 22 of this same 2023.
