Companion of the singer for almost fifty years, the musician recalled some of the most memorable moments with her: ‘It will always be difficult’




Partner of Rita Lee for nearly five decades, Robert de Carvalho recalled some of the most memorable moments alongside the singer in an interview with Fantastic, from Rede Globo. A ‘Queen of Rock’ died last Monday, aged 8, at the age of 75. She had been battling lung cancer since 2021 when she was diagnosed with the disease.

“It will always be difficult, I have no intention of making it easy,” he said. The interview was granted the day after the singer’s burial, Wednesday 10. “But I’m fine, because things were going so well. The last few times have been very difficult. Rita is considered a miracle by the doctors who treated her .”

The musician recalled Rita Lee’s last moments in the fight against cancer. “She’s lost her hair, she’s lost the ability to walk, she’s lost the ability to think,” Roberto said. “However, her last moments were light, calm, sweet. We were all together with her.”

The couple had three children: Beto Lee, 46, João Lee, 44, and the youngest, Antonio Lee, 42. The bond with Roberto has borne fruit not only in his personal life, but also in his professional one. The two composed dozens of songs together. “We’ve become the better half,” he said. “I can’t say ‘Rita and Roberto’, no. Roberto is Rita too. And Rita is Roberto too.”

She says the couple had “Mania de Você”, one of the big hits performed by Rita, as their favorite song. In the interview, Roberto recalled the creative process that gave rise to the song. “We were in bed, in a mad passion. This mad passion consumed me, I picked up the guitar and started playing,” he recalls moved. “She, beside me, took the notebook and completed the song.”

Roberto and Rita’s story has inspired legions of fans. At the start of the pandemic, the two got to interview each other for the Stadium. “Since 47 years ago when we first met, I am extremely caring and happy to have always been around such an enlightened person,” she said. “A person so full of life, creativity, joy, light.”

Roberto also describes her as a “spectacular” and “unique” person. In addition to revealing a little-known face of the singer. “Rita was also very shy. But she had a personality that, when she was exposed, she wasn’t shy at all,” the musician said. “Always very elegant, she said softly, ‘please’, ‘excuse me’. That was Rita.”
