Justin Timberlake sells rights to his songs for $100 million

41-year-old Grammy winner Justin Timberlake has sold the rights to his work to the British foundation Hipgnosis Song Management. This was announced on the eve of the authoritative music magazine NME. It is reported that the deal affected most of Justin’s solo work – now the company will control 200 of the artist’s songs, including his major hits “SexyBack”, “Can’t Stop The Feeling” and “Mirrors”. However, the rights to the tracks of the NSYNC group, of which he was a member from 1996 to 2002, were not transferred to the new owner. Also, the contract does not cover Timberlake’s future work.

Justin Timberlake is not only one of the most influential artists of the last 20 years, but also one of the greatest songwriters of all time, Merck Mercuriadis, founder and CEO of Hipgnosis Song Management, said in a press release.

Although the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, according to The Wall Street Journal, the contract amounted to about $100 million. Note that Sting, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan recently sold their catalogs in the same way. What prompted the artist to take such a step is unknown.

Timberlake’s musical career spans over 20 years. The singer became famous as a member of one of the main millennium boy bands NSYNC, and in 2002 left the group and began a successful solo career, subsequently recording 40 singles, five studio albums and three EPs.

Timberlake is also known as an actor. He starred in such films as “The Social Network”, “Alpha Dog”, “Time”, “Friendship”, “Va-bank” and many others. And recently it became known that Justin will appear as the sheriff in the new detective mini-series “Candy” along with his wife Jessica Biel.
