On Monday, May 22, as part of the 76th Cannes Film Festival in France, the first episodes of the sensational HBO project “Idol” were shown with Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) in the lead roles. However, not all viewers were satisfied with what they saw. So, professional film critics smashed the series to smithereens, outraged by the number of extremely explicit scenes in which Johnny Depp’s 23-year-old daughter appears mostly naked.
A rare scene is left without showing the actress’ breasts or ass, the Hollywood Reporter quipped.
Revenge porn featuring pictures of bodily fluids on Lily-Rose’s face, ice-cube masturbation, nightclub-running scammers, and nefarious Hollywood sycophants filled the first two episodes of the already controversial series, Variety couldn’t resist.
“Idol” or “50 Shades of Tesfaye: Odyssey on the homepage of a porn service with Lily-Rose Depp’s areolas and The Weeknd’s fat rat tail,” Kyle Buchanan of the New York Times came up with an alternative name for the project.

Netizens were shocked as well. Some even called the second episode “blatantly pornographic.”
There’s a whole 10-minute scene where The Weeknd talks dirty to Lily while she fingers herself for him and then he orders her and she gives him a blowjob. And worst of all, Sam Levinson (showrunner – approx. ed.) originally wanted this scene to be longer, wrote one of the critics from social networks.
Others suggest that the creators of the project literally “exploited” the actress, forcing her to act in an excessive number of sex scenes.
I hope she’s ok because it looks like a very exploitative attitude,” someone wrote.
However, some still appreciated Lily-Rose’s acting: after the premiere in Cannes, the star got a 5-minute standing ovation. Her famous father also appeared there last week: it was Johnny Depp’s triumphant return to the cinema with the new picture “Jeanne Dubarry”.
On the series “Idol” together with The Weeknd worked writer and director Sam Levinson, the creator of “Euphoria”. Previously, sources close to the production claimed that an extremely unfriendly and toxic atmosphere reigned on the set of the project (by the way, the same thing was said about Euphoria at one time), but Lily-Rose Depp denied this information, calling Levinson “the best director with whom she has ever worked.”
I have never felt more support and respect in the creative field, and my contribution and opinion were appreciated. Working with Sam is a true collaboration in every way. For him, the most important thing is not only what the actors think about the work, but also how we feel doing it, she said then. – He hires people whose work he appreciates, and always creates an environment in which I feel that I am seen, heard and understood.
