The ‘Todas as Flores’ actor has revealed that he battled cancer in silence six years ago
The actor Jackson Antunes revealed last week that she hid her battle with pancreatic cancer six years ago. The disease has one of the lowest survival rates of any type of cancer.
“I didn’t tell anyone. Six years ago I had very serious pancreatic cancer and I was hospitalized for a month. My wife, Cristiana Britto, stayed on a sofa with me for 30 days. She feels and will feel for the rest of his life” said Jackson Antunes in an interview with “Encontro com PatrĂcia Poeta”.
According to the National Cancer Institute (Inca), the disease is difficult to detect and has a very aggressive nature. Hence the high mortality rate. In Brazil it is responsible for about 1% of all types of cancer and causes 5% of all deaths.
What are the symptoms of pancreatic cancer?
Most cases of pancreatic cancer only show symptoms in the later stages of the disease. According to the Ministry of Health, the main warning signs are:
- Jaundice (yellow skin and mucous membranes);
- Dark urine (the color of black tea);
- Tiredness, loss of appetite and weight;
- Pain in the upper abdomen and back.
While these symptoms aren’t often related to cancer, it’s always important to see a doctor. This is because, in general, the cancer symptoms Jackson Antunes addresses include: weakness, weight loss, lack of appetite, abdominal pain, dark urine, yellow eyes and skin, nausea, and back pain.
