Ana Bertha Lepe left her fame after a tragedy with her father and boyfriend: her dramatic story

Ana Bertha Lepe passed away on October 24, 2013. However, she did not want the news of her death to spread, because she felt that “many years have passed (since her prime) and the new generations no longer know who she is .” At least that’s what his personal assistant, Esther Quintana, assured when announcing his death.

10 years after his passing, we remember the golden Mexican movie star, as well as the tragedies that marked his life.

Ana Bertha Lepe was a movie star and beauty queen

The star was born on September 12, 1934 in Jalisco (a state in central Mexico), the daughter of a retired military man and a housewife.

Over the years, his family moved to the Mexican capital and established a cafe very close to the Churubusco studios (famous Mexican film studios), which allowed him to interact with other celebrities and see the filmmaking process up close.

This is what convinced Ana Bertha Lepe to become an artist. But he would soon encounter the first obstacle: his father did not want to commit himself to this world. According to “Sale el sol”, the ex-soldier accepted that his father was an actor on the condition that he would manage his career.

His name first appeared in cinema in 1951, under the title ‘Wolf’s justice’. After that, other projects arrived, such as “The uncle of my life”, or “I prefer your dad!”.

Two years later, the opportunity came that would catapult her to international recognition: she represented Mexico at the Miss Universe 1953 pageant, where she finished in fourth place.

After these successes, his career took off: between 1953 and 1960, he appeared in at least twenty Mexican films, becoming one of the most popular figures of the time.

At the same time, he was working as a vendetta in a cabaret south of Mexico City.

Ana Bertha Lepe lost a suitor at the hands of her father

On the evening of May 29, 1960, tragedy knocked on the interpreter’s door. Everything seemed to be going as usual: she had scheduled a show at the cabaret where she worked, her father would pick her up at the end of his shift, and her boyfriend, Agustín de Anda, was in the audience.

However, the situation quickly changed when Guillermo and Agustín met at the nightclub. Some versions say that the young man informed the artist’s father that he intended to marry his daughter, while others claim the opposite, although they had plans to go down the aisle, he no longer wanted to implement them.

In any case, tempers flared between the two while the artist was in her dressing room, preparing for a triumphant evening.

The argument escalated to such an extent that “Papa Lepe,” as the spokesman came to be nicknamed, pulled out his pistol and fired two shots at his daughter’s suitor.

What made this event more tragic was that Ana Bertha Lepe did not find out what had happened, because she was focused on her show. It wasn’t until the next morning that one of her uncles informed her.

“I wanted to see them! I had the illusion that everything would be fine and I could marry Agustín, but he wasn’t there, so I went home. On Sunday, very early, my uncle José Ignacio arrived and told me that something very serious had happened: my father had killed Agustin with two shots,” the actress said at the time, in statements collected by the newspaper La Prensa.

Ana Bertha Lepe never again enjoyed the fame of her youth

In the next decade, the actress remained active in the seventh art, with such works as “Sin of Youth”, “The Brave Don’t Die”, “Death Hotel” and others.

However, around 1970, his appearances on the big screen began to dwindle. Many media reports state that, after the loss of Agustín de Anda, Ana Bertha Lepe turned to alcohol and withdrew from the art world.

In the mid and late 70s, he tried to restart his career with shows like “Mundo de juguete” (from 1974) or “El patrullero 777” (in 1978).

Between the 80’s and 90’s he participated in only 8 productions. The last time he appeared on screen was in 2001, with ‘Endless Christmas’.

On a personal level, it is known that in 1968 she married the dancer Alejandro Malpica, although this relationship was marked by tragedy, because, although they planned to expand their nest, she lost a baby at three months of pregnancy. Thus, she never fulfilled her dream of becoming a mother.

Ana Bertha Lepe spent her years completely isolated on her property in the State of Mexico. He passed away on October 24, 2013, when he was thought to have already been forgotten by public opinion, as previously reported.
